weather

Looks like we are going to have thunderstorms sometime tonight. Its certainly windy and warm outside. 65 degrees! Couldn't believe it myself.

Didn't do to much today, just rest and trying to catch up on sleep. Might try to go to bed early. I did not drink any sodas or eaten any chocolate this afternoon!  Has anyone got any ideas on relaxation? I think that's my problem. I'm keyed up at night and can't seem to go to sleep on time!

Okay, as somebody who's suffered from on-and-off insomnia for years, here are some of the things that have helped me:

1) Turn off your computer about an hour before you want to be in bed. Hard, I know, and I don't always succeed at this, but it does help. The bright lights from the screen and the mental activity can fool your brain into staying awake longer, and it takes some time to shift down.

2) Make sure you're comfortable. Check whether you need more light or less, whether you're too hot or cold, whether you need more pillows or fewer... and so on. These seem like little things, but even one little thing can be enough of a nuisance that it makes it touch to sleep.

3) Try low-key yoga, or else learn to do some conscious meditation. It doesn't have to be anything big, but closing your eyes and trying to consciously relax the various parts of your body, trying to be more centered and still, gets you in the right frame of mind to sleep. I started this in college, and it's been a huge help to me.

Whatever you do, I wish you good luck and sweet dreams!

*HUGS* Thank you for the advice! I'm going to have to try it. I have this habit of getting on the computer around 11 pm.

I know I've seen some yoga dvd's at barnes and nobles yesterday. Might have to check them out.

Check out an herbal supplement called Valerian.

The National Insitutes of Health have a couple of websites that discuss it:

Scientific info:
http://dietary-supplements.info.nih.gov/factsheets/valerian.asp

Layman Info:
http://nccam.nih.gov/health/valerian/

It might help without being a heavy-duty drug.

*HUGS* Thanks! I will! I'm hoping that I will sleep better tonight with a rain storm coming our way.

Would a long hot bath work as well?
